Rankings In the new Zagat Guide to Hawaii, restaurants are recognized in all appropriate categories. This year, a crop of inexpensive and more casual restaurants appears on the list. Wallet-friendly favorites include Pint + Jigger, REAL a Gastropub, Lucky Belly and Café Julia. Alan Wong’s and La Mer garner top rankings, but names such as Assaggio, 3660 On The Rise, Helena’s, Town and Highway Inn also grab a few mentions.
Precious Beans A new coffee roaster and bar 0000opened its doors on Oahu on Jan. 16. Named Green World, this coffee joint is a venture between Howard Green, owner of the North Shore Marketplace in Haleiwa and John Alvarez, owner of North Shore Roasters. Green World will offer locally roasted beans, as well as coffeeberry tea and pastries.
Lobster at JJ’s A new seafood menu has debuted at JJ Bistro & French Pastry. Inspired by the warm reception of the community to his other restaurant, Crab City, JJ Luangkhot has cooked up a more elegant and less messy version, focused on lobster. Dishes include lobster tail ($14.95), lobster pad thai ($18.95), a seafood combo for 2–3 people ($48) and of course, crab (market price).
