Why We Love Kailua The grand opening of Kailua Town Farmers’ Market is set for Sun., 2/24 from 9 a.m.–1 p.m. A welcome addition to the Ala Moana, Haleiwa and Hawaii Kai family of markets, Kailua Town’s market will host more than 40 vendors, including farms such as West Valley, Simok, Fields of Aloha, Circle C Ranch Grass-Fed Beef and others, as well as food from Baker Dudes Fresh Breads & Pastry, Off Da Hook Poke, Le Crepe Cafe and more.
New Tastes On the Leeward side, Chef Peter Merriman, a founder of the Hawaii Regional Cuisine movement, opened his first restaurant on Oahu (he has restaurants on four islands) at Ko Olina Shopping Center. The menu includes wood-fired pizza, burgers with garlic truffle oil fries, fusion comfort food like bulgogi pork and poke tacos and 36 microbrews on tap.
Coming Soon Pèppoli, a flagship restaurant of the wine-making Antinori family of Italy, will open in the summer at Lotus Honolulu in its now-vacated restaurant spot. Its cuisine will be strictly Tuscan: foods paired with Antinori wines.
A Menu-Lift An Alan Wong veteran, Wade Ueoka is the new mastermind behind Tsunami’s menu makeover. The sports bar now includes dishes such as tonkatsu, braised pork belly bao, salads made with produce from MAO Farms and Ho Farms, uni poke and more.
