Tea party to go
Every woman who walked through the Weekly’s kitchen cooed the same things upon seeing the spread from Tea At 1024: ‘Ooh, look at the strawberries.’ ‘Oh, how cute, look at the little sandwiches.’ ‘OooooooooooÖ.’
Translation for men: Guaranteed successful, romantic date, neatly packed in a decorative picnic basket containing multiple servings of fresh greens topped with slivers of strawberry, a variety of finger sandwiches, scones, pastries and, of course, your choice of tea. Tablecloths, napkins and silverware are included, making your date think you thought of everything. You even get to select the china. In our basket, the crab and olive sandwiches were fantastic, and the chocolate cheesecake was over the top.
Owner Michelle Henry will take your order by phone and pick up is on site. The cafe is just as cute as the tea basket, so be prepared for more ‘ooo-ing’ and ‘oh-ing’ if you bring your girl. As an added bonus, there are frilly 1920’s hats and boas to accessorize you for the part. Tea At 1024 is open Tue-Sat from 11am to 4pm. Take-out tea baskets for two run about $25 with a deposit and the cafÈ’s Afternoon Tea Special is a very reasonable $14.95. Call 521-9596.
