This year, Halloween is arriving in Hawaii with the tempo of smooth jazz at the second annual Pacific Rim Jazz Festival. This night of world-class entertainment may not be Halloween themed, but the dexterous performers are sure to conjure up some other-worldly tones akin to haunting spirits being slowly summoned out of their instruments.

After last year’s successful triumph, the festival is back for a second round in an even roomier venue: the Hawaii Convention Center Ballroom. The goals for the festival are far-reaching; event-producer and renowned musician Michael Paulo intends to not only highlight local musicians’ aptitude in the realm of jazz, but also to bring in talent from the Pacific Rim and to build popularity with the larger international community.

The event will feature artists such as Jeffrey Osborne, Boney James, David Benoit, Mindi Abair, Michael Paulo, Greg Karukas and Rene Paulo, along with a host of Hawaii’s top-notch chefs conducting a food and wine tasting.

Jeffrey Osborne, lead vocalist of the R&B group LTD, has made five gold and platinum records as a solo artist. Osborne is Infamous for his sonorous voice in slow jams such as “Love Ballad,” “Stay With Me Tonight,” “On the Wings of Love” and more. Boney James has garnered three Grammy nominations and four gold records, and he has topped the Billboard Charts several times. James is widely considered the best saxophonist since Kenny G. Mindi Abair, one of the leading saxophonists and vocalists of smooth jazz and pop, has reached new levels of stardom after her recent appearance on American Idol.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Kapolei Foundation, a non-profit charity that provides college scholarships to students in need.
